I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for this week! We are starting a new language arts unit that is my FAVORITE thing to teach- poetry and sensory language! Yay!
Here's what our week will look like...
Math
This week we are moving on from elapsed time to temperature. Most students already have a lot of prior knowledge when it comes to this topic. The place where they seem to have trouble is deciphering the units on the side of the thermometer. What are the units counting by? We are going to work on decoding thermometers and looking at differences in temperatures. We are also going to get started on creating our own bar graphs-fun!
Language Arts
Like I said, this is my FAVORITE thing in the whole world! Sensory language is what makes writing come alive and fun for children. We are going to have so much fun as we dive into the world of poetry and sensory details these next three weeks. This week we are going to look at poetry and see how it's different from other forms of writing that we are use to. We are also going to start writing our own pieces!
Science
We are going to continue our unit on force and energy. Where do we see these things at work in our everyday lives? How do we know? What is that magical force that keeps us from spinning off our planet?
Texas History
Students turned in some WONDERFUL projects last week. This week we are shifting gears and getting started on our International Fair project. The kiddos don't know what country we are researching yet-so it's going to be a surprise! Thank you so so much to Laura Podnar for getting so many wonderful resources together for us! I also want to say thanks to those of you who are going to be mystery readers for us!
Fourth Grade 411
-DLR is coming to an end. We are going to use a different resource for morning writing practice. There will not be a weekly assessment for this new resource.
-Thursday's math homework is optional. Students who complete it will get an extra 100 in the gradebook.
-Student's are not allowed to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Wednesday.
Let me know if you have any questions!
