October 8th - 12th

I had so much fun talking with y'all on Monday! It's nice to have some time to get to know my kiddos and their families better!

Here is a rundown for our week...

Math
We are looking at algebraic expressions, input-output tables, and noticing patterns in algebra. We are off to a great start by solving for variables in our tables.

Language Arts
This week we are wrapping up expository text. We will revisit the topic again before our STAAR assessments. The students have done a great job of structuring their writing so that it is easy for readers to understand. All expository pieces are due on Friday. In reading we are reviewing fact and opinion, summarizing nonfiction text, and critiquing our reader responses. The kiddos are really enjoying writer's and reader's workshop!

Science
We are continuing along the path of discovering properties of matter and how we can measure them. This week we are going to focus in on buoyancy, density, and solubility. Science fair is coming up! On Friday students will talk about the guidelines for their projects. Please direct any questions you have to Mrs. Schermerhorn, our wonderful fifth grade teacher and science fair coordinator! Texas History
We have learned about Native Texans for the past few weeks. This week we are going to wrap up and prepare for our final project.

Homework
I am sending home more detailed spelling homework this week. Let me know if you have any questions.
Students have a resources page that allows them to access library databases from home. These links would be a great place for students to find reliable information for their IQM homework.
