It's a short and sweet week! We have a lot to get done in the next few days, but I've managed to schedule in some time for fun and winter celebration! Here is the rundown for our week...
Language Arts
In reading we are comparing literary nonfiction to its nonfiction counterpart. Today we read two books on Kwanzaa and compared the different styles of writing and text formatting. In writing we are going to revise and edit our expository pieces from our district assessment last week. Today the students reflected on their writing and made notes on things they wanted to change. We made a list of all the things our expository pieces should include to help us in the reflection process. They were very critical of themselves! We are making changes and should have another piece published by Thursday :o)
Math
This week we are diving into fractions and their decimal relations. Today we talked about the parts of a fraction, mixed numbers, and how to compare fractions using manipulatives. Tomorrow we will make videos explaining fractions and how to compare then using manipulatives or the algorithm.
Texas History
In history are working on persuasive posters trying to get people to settle in the new colonies in Texas. Students picked the colony they wanted to advertise and started working on their rough drafts. These advertisements will be due on Thursday!
Science
We will wrap up electricity with an open note assessment this week. We were not able to get to it last week due to all of the district assessments. On Wednesday we will build Lego robots! Students will build the robot and then give it commands from their laptops. It should be A LOT of FUN! If your child was missing large pieces of their science fair project, please bring in the missing pieces no later than Thursday, December 20th. I am afraid students will start to fall behind if they wait until after the break.
This long break would be the PERFECT time to get the majority of your project completed!! :o)
