This week will hopefully be much more relaxed. Hopefully.
This is what our week will look like...
Language Arts
We started our persuasive unit last week. We are having a lot of fun reading mentor text and identifying the different forms of persuasion. Last week students practiced writing persuasive paragraphs using the OREO strategy.
This week we are writing persuasive letters. All persuasive letters must be turned in by Friday!
Math
This week we are going back to angles. Students will learn how to use a protractor to measure angles in degrees. We will talk about the unit of measurement for angles, the proper way to use protractors, and that all angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees.
Science
We didn't get to talk about inherited traits and learned behaviors last week. I didn't want to introduce a new concept while I was out. Today we started talking about the difference between inherited traits and learned behaviors today and the kiddos had a lot of fun! We also watched a video that explained the difference between dominant and recessive genes. If you have time, students can trace back different traits though their family tree. Just how did they get their blonde hair and green eyes?
Texas History
The railway and oil in Texas. Students read about the railway expansion in the Texas Weekly Newspapers last week, however we didn't get a chance to talk about it in class. This week we are going to review and introduce the topic of Spindletop and the discovery of oil in Texas!
