Weekly Update 9/16-20

It's our fourth week in fourth grade!!

Writing
Last week, the kiddos published their first writing pieces. This week, we are going to continue working on personal narratives. We will talk about new ways to generate writing ideas, practice planing our stories to make sure we are telling seed stories, and quickly touch upon ways to start and end our stories. All of these skills will be developed throughout the year.

Reading
Last week, we talked about character interactions and character development. This week, we will continue to focus on our characters and how they evolve throughout our stories. We will also look at the main events in a story and how they affect one another. We will make comparisons to the changes in the text and our characters.

Science
Last week, we reviewed the states of matter and what causes matter to change forms. This week, we will look at the different properties of matter, generate a definition of matter, and compare different properties of matter. There are lots of great at-home resources on my website on this concept!

Texas History
Last week, we wrapped up our unit on map skills. This week, is Celebrate Freedom Week! We will talk about the freedoms we are allowed here in the United States. It's going to be a lot of fun! The following week, we will focus back on Texas History.

Math
This week, we have a math test of place value, rounding, and multiplying by 10s and 100s. We will review on Monday and take the test on Tuesday. The bonus packet will be due on Monday. After our assessment, we will look at ways to model multiplication and practice developing our multiplication fluency.
