Weekly Update 2/17-21

Good Morning!
I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather we had this weekend. Here is what our week will look like...

Reading
This is our last week in our drama unit. Students have a copy of several vocabulary words they will be responsible for on the assessment on Friday. Please take some time every night to review them. This week, students will continue to look for text evidence to help them learn more about their characters in their readers theatre scripts. Hopefully, we will have time to 'perform' on Thursday. I'll post videos if we do! Our drama assessment will be on Friday.

Writing
We have tried several times to dig in deep with commas, but with all this crazy weather we've had, things have been a little hit-and-miss. I'm hoping to be able to wrap them up by the end of this week. We will review the ways commas are used in writing, search for ways to add them into our own writing, and play some fun review games. Students will not be responsible for completing a writing piece in class this week.

Math
Last week, we had some mutli-step conversion problems that we tackled as a class. This week, we are going to look at what kind of math we perform when we are converting larger to smaller units (and vice versa), and how we know that. We will spend the majority of the week practicing converting units and utilizing our STAAR conversion chart. On Thursday and Friday, we will review perimeter and area.

Science
This week, we are going to continue our weather unit by analyzing weather maps. Students will learn how to decipher common weather symbols and talk about the types of changes that weather will bring. Please remember to update your weather map every night. On Friday, we will start to talk about clouds, how they form, and how they get their names.

Texas History
The Texans aren't very happy with their new laws and new dictator, General Santa Anna. What are they going to do? Stephen F. Austin has tried to reason with Santa Anna and was met with the sound of the jail bars clinking. How are the Texans going to react to the news that their leader is locked up in Mexico?
