We have a lot going on this week, even without our field trip. Please remember to check the news, the Elsa England Website, and our RRISD website for updated information on potential schedule changes. It is easier for me to update my website from my phone than it is to email everyone (why is Google so difficult?), so I'll post any updates there.
Don't forget that we will not go to San Antonio tomorrow. Our trip has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 3rd. We were lucky enough to get the very last spot that the Institute of Texan Cultures had available! A big THANK YOU to Blanca, ITC's school coordinator, for fitting us in. Everyone including parents, the charter bus company, ITC, and the folks at the Alamo, have been so gracious and kind today. Thanks for being patient with us as we figured everything out! Our main priority is keeping our kiddos safe.
Here is what our week will look like.
Reading
This week, we will continue to read lots of non-fiction. We will look at the author's purpose, and differentiating between main ideas and details in non-fiction text. Today, the kiddos did a great job sorting through the interesting details to find the main idea of the text. We compared it to the central idea in our expository writing. I think that really made it click for some kiddos.
Writing
This week, we have Writing University! Students will have a chance to spend time writing with a different fourth grade teacher every day this week. We are polishing up and reviewing some writing skills so that kiddos will be well prepared for Camp STAARlight!
Math
We will have a math assessment on Thursday this week. Originally, I told the students it would be Friday, but since we will be here tomorrow, we will take it a day early. I would like to move it to Thursday so we can have Friday to review as a class. The assessment will cover estimating reasonable units of measurement, converting units of measurement, measuring length, finding the perimeter and area of 2D figures, and finding the volume of 3D figures.
Science
We watched the forecast for tonight and the ice that we are supposed to get. We've spent a lot of time reading weather maps and predicting the weather. This week, we are going to switch gears and look at lunar cycles and moon phases. Why do we see different parts of the moon each night? Does the moon light up? Why are there nights where we don't see anything?
Texas History
Well, we aren't going to the Alamo, but the good news is, we are going to reenact it on Thursday! To celebrate the anniversary of the Alamo, all fourth grade students will head outside to reenact the Mexican's defeat over the poor Texans. Mr. Grubb will be in the midst of all the action to film the battle. The first screening of our Alamo video will be on Monday at our Camp STAARlight pep rally!
