Hello!
Reading
This week, we are continuing our review with a focus on poetry, traditional literature, and comparing different genres. What kind of information do I gain from nonfiction text that I don't get from a poem? What perspective is the story told from?
Writing and Texas History
We had some trouble with our comic strip websites last week so we had to extend our deadline to this week. Students should be done by Wednesday. We will put the whole book together and read it on Thursday.
Science
Last week, we talked about what animals need to survive. This week, we are going to talk about how animals meet those needs. Do all animals meet their needs in the same way? How do they meet their needs differently? Why do they do things differently? What factors come into play? On Thursday, we will go on a camouflage scavenger hunt in Ms. Kohn's room. :)
Math
The kiddos are feeling pretty confident in their math skills right now - and they should! We've been mixing in some fun review games and activities in with our regular assignments. Last Friday, we played math basketball with the STAAR questions from last year. I think everyone was surprised by how easy it was! You can find last year's STAAR assessment here if you want to take a sneak peek.
Fourth Grade 411
-Today, we talked about animal feet. We discovered that monkeys are the only other animals with fingers and thumbs. I challenged the kiddos to try taping their thumb to their index finger to see what life would be like thumb-less. They can email me about their experience for extra credit!
-Homework is due on Thursday. The last page in the math packet will be considered extra credit. We made this packets back when we thought we would have school on Friday. Please make sure your child is using their strategies on their reading assignments. They aren't time consuming and really help!
