Weekly Update 5/5-9

Good Afternoon!

This is what our week will look like...

Language Arts & Science
This morning the students brainstormed some possible ways we could protect the Jollyville Plateau Salamander and the Golden Cheeked Warbler. From that list we have narrowed it down to five ideas. The kiddos broke up into groups and started planning out how they are going to tackle their projects. Some students are creating websites to share with other fourth graders, some are creating signs to put up around the natural habitats, one students is writing a letter to our congressman, and others are creating flyers to share with their neighbors. We will spend most of our mornings reading examples of persuasive writing and coming up with our own persuasive pieces to include in our projects. In science we will continue learning more about these animals, their habitats, how they survive in their environment, and how they compare to other animals around the world.

Math
We are having a hard time measuring angles right now. Some extra practice at home with a protractor would be wonderful! If you don't have a protractor you can purchase one at HEB for around a dollar. If you have already done your shopping for the week, you can use this link for students to use an online protractor http://www.mathplayground.com/measuringangles.html

Texas History
This week we are going to learn about life on a plantation. Who lived there? What kind of responsibilities did each person have? How is that different from the way the yankees lived up north? How will these differences collide?
