Good Evening!
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their rainy weekend. We have a pretty low-key week ahead of us. Let me know if you have any questions!
Reading
This week we will start our book groups. Students will spend time reading and reflecting with their new partners. We will meet to discuss the characters and any predictions they have for their story. We will spend most of the week setting up expectations for appropriate and productive ‘book talk.’
Writing
This week we are taking our first story through the writing process as a class. Students will write about a time they went somewhere new. Today we came up with ideas and practiced writing a timeline to help keep all events in order. They will have a final piece ready on Friday.
Math
We are going to continue looking at ways we use multiplication and division in real world situations. Today we solved several word problems where students were required to use their math fact knowledge. We will continue to work on math fact fluency and problem solving. Make sure you are working on those facts every night!
Science
Last week we shook up a big jar of dirt and water. Today, our jars look funny! Why is some dirt on the bottom and some dirt floating on top? The soil seemed to separate into layers- I wonder why? We will also go on a field trip around the school looking for evidence of our latest rainfall. Why does the soil move when it rains? Where can we find other examples of this?
Texas History
It is Celebrate Freedom Week! This week we will talk about what freedom means. We will look at important leaders in our history and talk about the Constitution. We will even watch an interview with our President Barack Obama!
Homework
We have a full week of homework this week
Please remember to practice math facts every night
