I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather we had this weekend, I know I did!
Here is a look at our week ahead:
Reading
We are continuing our unit on nonfiction this week. Last week, students looked at the tools nonfiction writers use to present their information. This week, we will look at ways authors organize the information in their main articles. Some examples would be cause and effect, chronological order, or compare and contrast.
Writing
We are going to write our first expository piece this week. Today, the students picked out an important person they wanted to write about and listed reasons why that person is important to them. We practiced using a new graphic organizer to help students with their pre-writing. We will spend time this week looking at ways to write introductions and conclusions. Their final copy will be due at the end of the day on Friday.
Math
We are going to wrap up fractions this week, however, we will revisit fractions later on in the year. Today we talked about mixed numbers and ways we can break them apart into smaller pieces, including improper fractions. We will spend the rest of the week breaking apart fractions and placing them on a number line.
Science
Has your child been keeping up with their moon phase and weather calendars?
This week we have a LOT going on in science. Monday thru Wednesday we will talk about tools used to measure weather and how weather is predicted.
On Thursday, I will introduce their science fair project and expectations. This project will be completed at home and at school. It would be best if your child used their Google accounts to store their work. This way, they can access it anywhere they are. For more information on science fair, please check out the link above. A parent letter will go home on Thursday that will need to be signed and returned by Tuesday, October 14th. All due dates and other supporting materials can be found on line.
On Friday, we will have a presentation by Dr. Rick McMasters. It's a lot of fun!
Texas History
We are going to go on a virtual tour of the four regions of Texas!
Homework
Spelling homework is going home today and will be due on Friday. There will be an assessment on Friday over the spelling and definition of the words. Today, we reviewed the words and the expectations of their homework. Let me know if you have any questions!
Don't forget to bring in an old white t-shirt. We are still waiting to make our lab coats!
Fourth Grade 411
Please make sure you are using our Google calendar to keep up with important dates in our classroom!
