Weekly Update 12/1-5

Welcome back!
I hope everyone enjoyed their much needed break. I know I did.

Here is a look at our upcoming week-

Reading
This week we starting a new unit. We are going to read biographies and look at what events affect the characters in the text. This week we are going to practice making inferences about the subjects in our biographies. Each student will be given their own biography to read. They should be finished by the end of the week.

Writing
We will spend this week going over revising strategies. Why do we revise? Why is it important? We will work together to revise a piece that students wrote last week. On Friday, we will compare first drafts to final drafts. We will discuss if all that effort was worth it. :)
We do have regular spelling expectations this week.

Social Studies
We are leaving Egypt and headed back to Texas. This week we will learn about the first people in Texas. We will also study the native tribes in the gulf coastal region of Texas.

Math
We did not have time to take our angle measurement assessment last week. On Monday, we will spend some time reviewing and then start the math assessment. Students will also have class time on Tuesday to work on the assessment. Once we are finished, we are start a new unit focusing on 2x2 digit multiplication and division.

PBL
We are making great progress on our energy PBL! Now that students have spent time learning about energy waste, we will now shift our focus to what we are going to do about it. Students will have time to pick an area of interest (energy conservation in the home or community) and come up with a plan to advocate for energy conservation.
