Weekly Update 12/ 15-18

Good Afternoon!

It's going to be a fun week!

Reading
This week, we are going to read literary nonfiction and their traditional nonfiction counterparts. Today, we started with reading two books about President Obama. We talked about ways the information is organized differently in the two genres, and how we learn different information about our president in each book. We will continue to read paired books all week.

Writing
We are going to spend time reviewing comma rules and learn some new rules. We will play practice punctuation games on Wednesday and Thursday.

Math
We are going to wrap up 2x2 digit multiplication and officially move on to division. We have briefly discussed division several times already this year. We hope for everyone to feel confident about long division by the end of the week.

Science
We have a presentation today! Karen Verell, the head of print services for RRISD, will stop by to discuss paper usage in the district. Students sent her questions last week. Hopefully she will have answers to most of them! We will also try to coordinate action dates for our PBL energy project. Some groups are passing out fliers at RRISD sporting events, others want to post them in their apartment communities. I will send out emails to each parent group to help coordinate these action steps. Students do NOT have to do the action step over break. That's y'all's time to relax! Don't forget your next set of science fair due dates!

Texas History
We are going to read about the Native Texans in the plains regions of Texas.

Homework
No homework this week!

Fourth Grade 411
-All corrections and missing assignments are due by Wednesday, December 17th. I will take assignments on Thursday, but if you turn them in on Wednesday, you will be able to see your child's report card averages before you leave for break.
-Our party is on Thursday!
-We are collecting chocolate donations for the elderly in a nearby home. Each child is asked to bring in ONE candy bar by Thursday. I will drop off the donations on Thursday after our party.
