We are looking forward to another exciting week!
Reading
Last week, we started our traditional literature unit. We talked about the different types of traditional literature (fold tales, fairy tales, tall tales, fables, myths, and legends) and common characteristics of each type. We talked about trickster characters that are common in traditional literature. This week, we are going to talk about characters in traditional literature. We will look at ways that they change through the stories, what causes them to change, and the different relationships. Today, we read a tall tale about Stormalong, a larger than life sailor.
Writing
This week, we are going to talk about revising strategies. We will take their stories from last week and make revisions to improve their writing. We will work on several whole class examples the first few days this week. They will have Thursday and Friday to make changes to their own writing. We will have spelling homework and a spelling quiz this week.
Math
Last week, we talked about input-output tables. We wrote equations to show what was happening to the data in the tables. This week, we are going to write equations for perimeter and area and review the difference between perimeter and area.
Science
This week, we are going to review the three states of matter, measure different properties of matter, and talk about how the water cycle relates to changing states of matter. Students need to bring in an item to identify properties for our lab on Wednesday. The item should fit inside a sandwich bag. The item can be a solid or a liquid.
Texas History
Last week, we discussed the European explorers arriving in the Americas. This week, we will learn about the early European explorers in Texas.
