Weekly Update 1/20-23

Good Afternoon!

I hope everyone is enjoying this BEAUTIFUL weather we are having so far this week!

Reading
Last week, we looked at ways characters change through traditional literature. We will continue to look at the way characters change and interact with each other. We are also going to start utilizing some STAAR strategies. Students must be able to go back in the text and find their text evidence for their answer. This is a skill we have been working on all year long.

Writing
Last week, we talked a lot about revising our writing. Students made revisions to their piece from the week before. We also practiced making revisions in sample pieces of writing. This week, we will start a new expository piece and spend lots of time revising with peers.

Math
We will have a math assessment on Friday. Students will work on a review on Thursday during class. They can take the review home to study for the assessment on Friday. They will need to bring it back to receive credit. We will spend Tuesday and Wednesday working on some higher level problem solving with algebraic expressions and perimeter and area. Check out our links for extra practice.

Science
IT'S FINALLY HERE! Students will spend time practicing their presentations for science fair this week. On Thursday, they will present their project to a judge who will assess how well they understood the scientific process and the topic they selected. Students moving on to regionals will be announced at Science Night. Don't forget to stop by. We have a lot of great guests planned.

Texas History
We are going to wrap up European explorers this week. We have spent several days talking about why the explorers came over to the new world and what they were looking for. We will start talking about independence in the western hemisphere this week!
