Let's look at our upcoming week.
Reading
This week, we are going to wrap up our unit on traditional literature. For their assessment, students will read, compare, and answer questions about two fables. Starting Wednesday, we will look at how writers can write their stories from different perspectives. We will talk about first and third person writing. Students will do several activities determining the point of view for different text.
Writing
We have a new spelling assignment this week. We are going to learn several prefixes and look at how to apply them to help us determine the meanings of new words. We are also going to take a short break from writing passages and shift our focus on some grammar rules - specifically commas. We will also review our STAAR multiple choice writing strategies.
Math
We are starting a new unit in math this week! We are going to talk about units of measurement and converting different units of measurement. On Monday, students will need to bring a tool for measuring. Some examples are: tape measure, scale, measuring cup, etc. On Wednesday, they will need to bring in an example of a unit of measurement. For example, they might bring in a gallon jug, empty pint, measuring cup for only one cup. They need to bring in an example of ONE of the units they have picked. They would NOT bring in a measuring cup that measures 2 cups because it is more than one cup.
Science
This week, we are going to talk about mixtures and solutions. How are they different? How can they be separated? We will have a review of matter - properties of matter, changes in matter, and mixtures and solutions on Friday. They will take an assessment on Monday of next week.
Social Studies
We did not get as far as we would've liked last week. So, this week, we are going to learn about the colonies in the Western Hemisphere fighting for independence from the eastern rulers.
Fourth Grade 411
-Please send in $5 for your child's fourth grade t-shirt. We would like to have all money collected by this Friday, January 30th. The sooner we have all the money in, the sooner we can order our shirts!
-Be on the look out for information about our trip to San Antonio. It's right around the corner!
-Did you know that Ms. Wright used to be Girl Scout? In fact, I have my Silver Award AND my picture used to be on the Thin Mints box! If you are a Girl Scout selling cookies, let me know! I am always happy to support a fellow Scouter!
