Weekly Update

Good Afternoon!

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. We had a great time at our party on Friday. Thank you for all of my sweet treats!

Here is a look at our week ahead:

Reading
We are going to wrap up our nonfiction unit this week. We are going to read info graphics about paper waste in the United States. Students will look at how authors use facts to support their reasons, discuss the author's purpose for writing, and infer why authors use certain images in their text. Students have a short nonfiction passage about the Amazon Rain Forest that they need to complete on Google Classroom for homework.

Writing
We are going to learn new strategies for crafting satisfying endings to our personal narratives. We will work on those all week. We will also spend some time working on editing and revising strategies to prepare students for STAAR. Students do NOT have spelling homework this week.

Math
We are also wrapping up our measurement and conversion unit. Students will review the difference between mass and weight, review for the assessment, and take the assessment on Friday. Students can practice their skills with our many online games on the math page!

Science
We are shifting our focus to electric energy! Students will create electromagnets and electromagnetic fields. It should be A LOT of fun!

Social Studies
Our class is invested in reducing our paper usage. We will spend time this week devising a plan for convincing the district to put our benchmarks online instead of wasting so much paper. We will learn about the pros and cons of recycling. We hope to gain lots of persuasive information!

Fourth Grade 411
-Our t-shirts are here! I will hold on to them for our field trip. Please send your child in pants/shorts/or a skirt on the day of our trip to San Antonio. They will change in the morning into their class t-shirt.
-Please do not forget to turn in your permission slip for our field trip. Right now, we only have two volunteers for our trip. We would love two more!

Let me know if you have any questions.
