Weekly Update 5/11-15

Good Afternoon!

The kiddos were quite bummed this morning when they found out our trip was canceled. It took a while for us to shake out of the funk. However, our day has really turned around! Students emailed invitations to our presentation to several district leaders. We have already heard back from Carla Amacher, RRISD Executive Director of Elementary Schools. She will be able to join us! Woohoo! Just what we needed to hear to turn our frowns around :)

Update: Dr. Flores will be able to attend our presentation!

Here is a look at our upcoming week...

PBL Paper Project
We are spending the rest of the week putting together our website for our presentation to district leaders. We are going to analyze persuasive techniques companies used to influence potential consumers. We will try to use those techniques in our presentation. Did you check out our invitation?

PBL Money Matters
Last week students calculated how much money they are going to have to save in order to reach their goals on time. Some of us found that we probably won't be able to save up enough for our ENTIRE college experience. We talked about the importance of preparing for the future even if we might not be able to save up enough for everything we want. This week we will look at ways to earn the money they are going to save. Will they ask for an increase in allowance? What chores will they do to earn the increase? Are they going to look for a job in the neighborhood? How will they persuade people to hire them? It should be an interesting conversation :)

Science & Social Studies
We've been learning about how plants and animals adapt to their environments. This week will move on to ways animals inherit their adaptations and traits. We will talk about how we inherit different physical character traits from our parents. We will then relate this to a 'survival of the fittest' idea of how animals have adapted to their environments. In social studies we are learning about the new Republic of Texas.
