Good Afternoon!
Let's take a look at what's going on this week...
Reading
This week we are going to continue to look for themes in our reading. We will reread Edward Fudwupper Fibbed Big: Explained by Fannie Fudwupper to see if we can find the theme. We will also use that story to segway into looking at how characters interact and change through the story. Those clues will continue to help us find the theme of our reading!
Writing
We are going to continue working on personal narratives. This week I will model the drafting process to show students who painless writing can be. Let's keep our fingers crossed that they believe me! After we finish our first draft, we will practice revising our writing with a focus on word choice.
We will have a new set of vocabulary/spelling homework go home on Monday. Students will need to return their completed homework on Friday, when we will take our quiz.
Math
This week we are going to continue to review place value, addition and subtraction of large numbers, and rounding to the nearest 10s, 100s, and 1,000s. These skills build from previous years but are often a struggle for students. We will extend these skills to include the billions place. Don't forget to utilize IXL for easy practice of these skills. You can also checkout our math tab for more online practice.
Science
We will have our first science assessment on Monday. Please make sure students are practicing their vocabulary words using our Quizlet link. I also have other websites with tons of information to help students prepare. Check out our science tab for more information. After our assessment, we will move on to weathering and erosion. We will look at ways soil and weather combine to shape Earth's surface. I will make practice games for each unit's vocabulary words.
Social Studies
It's Celebrate Freedom Week! We will discuss the freedoms we enjoy everyday, take a moment to practice our right to vote, and discuss The Declaration of Independence. If time, we will learn about the presidents with a new Bluebonnet Book, Rutherford B., Who Was He?: Poems About Our Presidents.
Fourth Grade 411
-We learned all about the new Bluebonnet books last week. Our wonderful librarian, Mrs. Kupersztoch, has set up a reward system to get the kiddos reading as many of the books as possible. You can check out more information on the program here. Since the books are in high demand, I like to have a copy of each book in our classroom library to give the kiddos a chance to read each one. You can donate to our class library here.
-Picture Day is coming up! More information will go home in Thursday folders. Go ahead and mark your calendar for 9/22.
-We have our first early release day soon. Please make sure all students know how to get home on 9/23. That day is also Spirit Day at Orange Leaf! Support our school AND have a tasty treat to celebrate getting out of school early.
-It's time for parent conferences. If you have questions you would like to discuss, you can sign up for a conference time here. Conferences are not required if you feel confident in your knowledge of your child's abilities.
Let me know if you have any questions!
