Good Afternoon!
We have a fairly low-key week planned. Well, as low-key as any week at school can be. :)
***IMPORTANT***
Our Picture Day tomorrow has been rescheduled. Our new date is Wednesday, November 4. I will return your order forms tomorrow. You will need to submit new ones when they are passed out. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Reading
We are finishing up our unit on theme in fiction. This will be a skill that continues to pop up throughout the school year, so please don't let those great storytime conversations die down! You can find a sample of the project we will complete in our eBackpack.
Writing
We are going to write ALL THE TIME in fourth grade. At this time of year, we are just pushing through getting our ideas down on paper. Please do not stress your kiddos out just yet about nit-picky things. We've still got the rest of the year! This week, we will continue learning about the writing process and what comes after the first draft. Yes, you must make changes. No, adding a few periods does not count! :)
There are new spelling/vocabulary words this week. The assessment will be on Friday.
Math
The last few weeks, we have spent reviewing/solidifying math concepts students have seen before. We spent the end of last week reviewing adding/subtracting large numbers. We are now going to transfer that skill to units of measurement. What does it look like when we combine units of time? Does it work the same way? What background knowledge do we need to have when adding quarts and gallons? Measurement will come back around again since it's a tough concept for kiddos. This would be a GREAT time to utilize IXL and my math practice links to reinforce measurement skills.
Science
We are learning all about weathering, erosion, deposition, and how those things can change the surface of Earth. We started a lab today on the effects of weathering. I have plenty of great practice links for these concepts on the science page!
Social Studies
What in the world did we ever do before Siri and Google Maps?? How did people get places? How did they know where to go? This week, we will take a closer look at maps and their many details that can tell us so much. Y'all, we need to be prepared in case there isn't a wifi connection! :)
