I'm sorry I didn't post the update yesterday. I was driving back into town from visiting family in Houston. I will be out again on Wednesday for a meeting.
Here is a look at our week...
Reading
The kiddos had a tough time with understanding why authors use nonfiction text features. I have decided to continue working on this skill through this week. We want students to be specific when explaining why/how authors use nonfiction text features. We should be ready to move on to other nonfiction skills by the end of the week!
Writing
This week, we will continue looking at ways personal narratives and expository writing are different. We will begin writing expository text on Wednesday. I made a video lesson for the kiddos explaining the process they need to go through when starting an expository piece. These are videos I actually made, and not ones found online. I'm pretty excited to hear what the kiddos have to say about them!
Students will take their spelling quiz on Friday. They have the same list as last week. Don't forget to use your Quizlet links to study!
Math
We are going to continue 2x2 digit multiplication. This week we will focus on using the area model for solving these types of problems. While I think it's important for students to use whichever strategy works best for them, they will be responsible for knowing all of them for the STAAR assessment.
Science
Last week, we got some awesome goodies from Hot Wheels! We spent the last three days playing (learning), while discovering we already know A LOT about force, push, pull, gravity, speed, and friction. I think the kiddos were surprised to learn that they already knew so much. This week, we are going to use our Hot Wheels to look at ways friction can affect the speed of our cars.
Social Studies
Students have been working on a travel project since last week. They are creating a travel itinerary for a family of four to visit their assigned region. They have been researching different places that represent the culture of Texas. This week, we are going to finalize our itinerary and budget. We should be able to start creating our map of the vacation. Click here for more information.
