Weekly Update 11/2-6

Good Morning!

The weather was quite scary this weekend. I hope everyone was safe and had a happy Halloween. The kiddos have been so sweet bringing in some of the sweets they collected while trick-or-treating. I'm so lucky to have such thoughtful kiddos!

We will have A LOT going on through the rest of the year. Please make sure you are staying up to date by regularly checking our calendar.

Here is a look at our week:

Reading & Writing
We are entering our last week of studying nonfiction/expository text. We will circle back to these skills throughout the year. We will spend a few days on reviewing, then we will assess on Thursday and Friday. Students will be asked to write an expository writing piece and answer multiple choice questions about a nonfiction reading passage. Pretty simple and straight forward!

Math
I was completely blown away by students' understanding of fraction concepts. This can be a really tough skill for fourth graders, but we seem to be handling it with ease so far! This week, we will continue working on ways to compose fractions in multiple ways. Here is a great online resource for more fraction practice at home. Don't forget to utilize IXL. It's a great tool we really believe in here at EEE!

Science
We have had to push back our shadows lesson because of the fog and rain. We hope to go outside tomorrow and track our shadow movement throughout the day. We will also practice using our knowledge of weather maps to help us make weather predictions. Feel free to use these resources for extra practice at home.

Social Studies
We are going to continue learning about the Native Texan groups that were here before any of the explorers. Students are always surprised to learn about the history of Texas, and the fact that it wasn't always so pretty. We will discuss the life of Native Texans before it was changed by the introduction of European explorers.

Homework
Don't forget to finish up your last week of homework. Spelling assessments will be on Friday. Homework packets are due on Monday. I am also working on an extra credit assignment that I hope to post to Google Classroom tonight. I've already discussed it with the kiddos, I just need to take a moment and put it all together. I think you'll find it very informative!

Fourth Grade 411
- Don't forget to turn in picture money and flu forms ASAP. Please contact our nurse if you have any questions.
- Our food drive is underway. Please bring in donations ASAP. We would like to have the bins filled with great treats to inspire other students to want to donate and make a difference for others.
- I will be out on Tuesday and Friday. I have a training on Tuesday and I will be gone on Friday for my mother's wedding. You can still get hold of me through email! Our guest teacher for both days is Mrs. Benavides. She has been on our campus since we opened four years ago - so the all the kiddos know her. She's awesome!
- Check out our calendar for important dates!
