Good Afternoon!
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Only two more weeks until our first break. Anybody else in desperate need of some R&R?
Language Arts
This week, we are starting a new unit on poetry. This is my favorite language arts unit by far. We will look at characteristics of poetry and the ways authors use imagery. We will also do an intensive study of figurative language. We will learn how to use and decipher idioms, similes, metaphors, hyperbole, and more! Next week, the students will create a book of poems using all that they learned this week.
Math
We are still going strong with fractions. Everyday I am impressed at their number sense and basic understanding of how fractions work. That is a rare find! This week, we will focus on fraction study on comparing, ordering, and generating equivalent fractions. There is a TON of awesome fraction practice on IXL. Make sure you are utilizing this amazing resource!
Science
This week, we will talk about three observable patterns on Earth. We will look at ways tides, shadows, and the moon seem to change in a predictable pattern. We will discuss ways we are able to make predictions about these patterns. Spend some time observing the nightly moon with your child each night. This would be a great asset to our discussion in the classroom. Don't forget to check out the awesome resources we have on our science page.
Social Studies
We are going to press pause on Texas history for the next two weeks. Instead we will learn all about our ICF country, Brazil! We are so fortunate to have TWO classroom experts who can tell us all about the Brazilian culture. Stay tuned for more information to come. I am hoping to have some Brazilian snacks for the kiddos next week. I will create a sign up page and send it out later on.
Homework
We do not have any homework!!! I will post some possible fun activities you can complete with your child if you want to. They will support what we are doing in our classroom. I'll send out an email as soon as I have them posted. We DO have another extra credit opportunity for students in my language arts class. Check out our eBackpack and Google Classroom for more information.
