I did not post an update for the week since I was out sick for several days. I am going to go ahead and give you a look at what we will be up to next week. As always, let me know if you have any questions!
Reading
We are starting a new unit on literary nonfiction. Students will be reading about a famous person (nonfiction) in a literary format. The kiddos will spend the first few days reading and learning about their selected person. They will spend the rest of the week answering some reflection questions. You can see the assignment on Google Classroom if you have any questions.
Writing
We are jumping back into writing expository text. Students will learn ways to write interesting introductions and satisfying conclusions. We will spend a lot of time analyzing examples of expository text so that we can use that information to help us become better writers.
Math
We are circling back to multiplication and division. This time, students will be using larger numbers and their problem solving strategies. They will be given a menu of options they can select that will help support them the most. This assignment will also be posted on Google Classroom if you want to check it out! Khan Academy also has some great resources that y'all can access at home!
Science
Last week, we started a new unit on matter. We will discuss the three main states of matter and their properties. We will also explore the addition/removal of heat can cause a change to each state of matter. Click here to see the extra credit homework due on Thursday, December 17.
Hour of Code
We have an EXCITING week planned to celebrate Hour of Code. We, along with students from over 186 different countries, will learn how to code/program using tons of different resources collected from the last few years. Students will have the opportunity to code Star Wars, Minecraft, and Frozen games. Check out our page for a sneak peek!
Homework
We will have minimal homework that will be due on Friday. This will be sent home on Monday. I will keep it simple since this time of year should be spent enjoying time with our family NOT arguing about homework :)

Teacher Presents
I've already had several sweet kiddos ask me what I would like for the holidays. To be honest, what would me the happiest is for you to focus your time and hard earned money on those less fortunate then we are. I am in need of nothing. Our classroom is well stocked. I have a family who loves me. So please go ahead and cross my name off your list of things to do.
If you must, you can always make a donation to a charity close to your heart. You could even bring a hot meal to the men who live under the 45 overpass. Drop off a bag of sweet treats to Meals on Wheels for those who are unable to leave their homes and celebrate with their families this time of year. Make a donation to Brown Santa and help make this a happy time of year for families in our neighborhood who cannot afford to make the holidays bright for their kiddos. Those acts of kindness are sure to make your holidays a little brighter; and model the kind of giving spirit we want our kiddos to have.
We do not have a room parent so no one is going to send you an email about taking up a collection. Thank you so much for thinking of me. I appreciate all of y'all more than you know!
