Let me start off by saying THANK YOU! Y'all have done so much in these last few months of school. Y'all have gathered party materials, worked on science fair projects, and were sweet enough to celebrate my half birthday! Being a summer birthday means that you are often forgotten. But this year I had a lovely card waiting on my desk saying Happy Half Birthday! Thank y'all so so much!
Moving on to more school related topics...
Since this week is a short week, and we have Science Night, we will not have required homework this week. I sent the kiddos home with a math packet on decimals to work on as a bonus grade. It will be a great review for our fraction and decimal assessment coming next week. They are still struggling with decimals so the extra practice would be beneficial.
Here is what our week will look like
Reading
We are continuing our unit on traditional literature and specifically legends. We are using familiar legends to continue practicing outlining main events in a story. The kiddos are struggling with keeping their summaries short and sweet. This review should help us with that!
Writing
This week we are continuing to use writing prompts to generate personal narratives. We have talked about hooks, satisfying endings, details with a purpose, and starting our stories at the action. Students will be expected to use all of these strategies as they wrap up another story by the end of the week. We are using STAAR writing paper for our final drafts. This should help kiddos get use to the amount of space they have to work with!
Math
As I stated earlier, the kiddos are still struggling with decimals, corresponding place value, and that decimals are parts of a whole. Fractions were so easy for them, but decimals are tripping them up. We will continue to work on it this week. Our assessment date will depend upon the progress we make this week!
Science
In science we are looking at weathering, erosion, and deposition. I have some GREAT links for them to use for extra practice at home!
Texas History
We finally made it! It's time for the Texas Revolution! This week we are going to write a book about the main events in the Texas Revolution. It's going to be a lot of fun!
