February 11th - 15th

Good Morning!

The kiddos are busy learning about perimeter and area using the Legos that y'all let us borrow.
They are having a lot of fun!
We have a semi-normal week this week. I stress the semi :o)

Math
We are continuing our unit on measurement this week. Today we are wrapping up perimeter and area. Tomorrow we will start talking about volume and capacity. If you have any empty containers (milk jugs, yogurt containers, etc) we could use we would greatly appreciate it!

Reading
This week we are focusing on reading fluently and using punctuation in dramatic literature to guide our reading. We are also looking at how dramatic text looks different from traditional text. What is a narrator and why is he important? Why does the script look different from traditional text? Those sorts of questions.

Writing
Last week students took the STAAR practice assessment. This week they are going to score their own personal narratives and make a plan for revising it. I created a rubric for the kiddos to use to assess themselves and help them plan out how they need to get to their goal. Their final draft will be due on Friday.

Science
Last week we started our weather unit, but were not able to spend a lot of time on in it due to STAAR assessments. This week we are going to review moon phases, talk about different types of clouds, and begin weather predictions. This unit is A LOT of fun!

Texas History
Texas is now a COUNTRY! Wow. Now what? That's exactly what we're going to be researching about this week!
