Weekly Update 10/21-25

This is what our week is going to look like -

Reading
This week, we are going to continue reading non-fiction text. We will practice summarizing, identifying the author's purpose, distinguishing fact from fiction, and using non-fiction text features to help our comprehension.

Writing
Last week, we started writing expository text. Students used a graphic organizer to help them plan out their draft. You can find a copy of it on our extra links page - it will help with this month's writing assignment. We are going to practice writing beginnings and endings for expository text. We will analyze writing samples and talk about what score we think they are (1-4) and what the author did well, and what they could improve.

Math
Last week, I had students work independently on a review packet that covered the skills we've learned/reviewed so far this year. The packet was blue and went home in Thursday folders last week. After grading their work, I have decided to use this week as a chance to back up and fill in some gaps, as needed. I also noticed that students who are not proficient with their multiplication facts are continuing to struggle with double-digit multiplication and division. I strongly suggest that you spend time at home, every night, reviewing multiplication facts. In addition to our review in small groups, we will continue looking at input-output boxes, which also requires knowledge, a strong background in multiplication, and division concepts.

Science
Don't forget we have our science assessment on Monday! The review is posted on our extra copies page.

Texas History
Students have already started working on planning their trips for their designated Texas Region. This week, students will finish planning their itinerary, budget their expenses, and create some form of advertisement about their trip. We are hoping to have our project completed by Friday!
