Good Morning!
I cannot believe half of the year has already gone by. The second half of the school year is always jam-packed and we are hitting the ground running this week. Please remember to check the calendar for due dates and events.
Reading
We are starting a new unit in reading this week. We are going to read traditional literature and look at the different commonalities between the different text. We will spend the next four weeks reading fables, myths, legends, folk tales, fairy tales, and fables. Students will look at how characters change through the story, continue inferring themes and lessons, and compare different forms of traditional literature.
Writing
We spent a lot of time working on expository writing before the break. This week, we are switching gears and working on personal narratives. We started a new piece today that will be due on Friday. Night writes will also go home today. Students only need to turn in ONE final copy. Please be sure to read over the directions with your child carefully. We have already talked about it as a class.
Math
We started our geometry unit before we left. This week, we will review line sets, angles, and transformations as well as start classifying 2D and 3D shapes. We will look at the different attributes of the shapes to help us classify them. This is a vocabulary intensive unit. It would be great if you spend some time reviewing the vocabulary words with your kiddos at home.
Science
We are also starting a new unit in science. Our new unit will focus on soil, soil properties, and conserving our natural resources. Don't forget about science fair! The data from the experiments are due this Friday. I have added the final due dates to our calendar. Science Fair and Science Night are on January 28th.
Hunger Warrior
This year we are continuing the Hunger Warrior service learning project by participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring. Our class will create commercials to play over the morning news asking for donations for the Round Rock Serving Center. We are taking food donations only. Please check our Hunger Warrior website for more information. We hope to collect 2,000 food items by January 31st!
