Weekly Update 9/8-12

The beginning of the year is just as crazy as the end of the year. We have lots of little things going on this month. Hopefully things will calm down in October!

Reading
This week, we are going to continue working on creating quality responses in our reading notebooks. Students will read books of their choosing and practice writing and sharing their responses with the class. Next week, we will start our book groups!

Writing
We spent a lot of time just writing last week. We created a list of writing ideas, wrote from our personal experiences, and wrote from silly prompts on Friday. Students need more time to practice getting their ideas on paper and writing for extended periods of time. This week, we will practice prewriting strategies and focusing our stories on little moments.

Math
This week, students will continue working on their multiplication fact fluency, look at ways multiplication and division are related, and look at patterns in multiples of 10 and 100. We will also look at what is really happening when we divide. How is that related to multiplication? How will my knowledge of multiplication facts help me with solving division problems?

Science
We are starting a new unit in science this week - soil! What is it? Why is it important? How is one type of soil different from others? What are the different properties of soil? We will find the answers to all these questions this week, as we conduct our experiments.

Texas History
This week, we are starting our year-long journey of learning about the history of our great state, Texas. We will begin by learning some state 'basics'. Where is our capitol? What is the state motto? How did Texas get its name?

Homework
Everyone did a GREAT job keeping up with their assignments last week! We have another full week of homework this week.

Fourth Grade 411
Don't forget to attend our Parent Information Night on Tuesday, at 6:45 p.m. As a team, we will share a quick overview of the year and the curriculum. We will then split into classes, where you will learn more about what's happening in our room.

Don't forget to check out calendar for important dates.

Let me know if you have any questions!
