Good Afternoon!
It has been another lovely weekend. I wonder what type of pressure system is giving us such great weather?
I will be gone Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week. The district has graciously offered the opportunity for teachers to attend a week of Capturing Kids' Hearts training. I have heard truly wonderful things about this training.
You will still be able to contact me via email. I ask that you keep transportation changes minimal this week since I won't be here. I will send Thursday folders home on Friday this week.
Is your testable question ready? It's due TOMORROW!
Here is a look at our week...
Reading
We have spent the last few weeks reading nonfiction text. This week, students will use their knowledge of nonfiction text features and nonfiction organizational structures, to help them answer questions about nonfiction text. They will have to prove all of their answers with text evidence.
Writing
Since we have a short week last week, we did not complete an expository writing piece. We did spend a lot of time reading examples of expository writing and critiquing the tools the authors used. This week, students will use their notes from last week to help them complete another expository writing piece. We will come up with the topic, supporting reasons, and possible conclusions as a class on Monday. They will spend Tuesday - Thursday working on their draft, conferencing with peers, and conferencing with the guest teacher. They will write their final draft on Friday.
Math
Now that we feel confident with decimals, we will spend this week practicing adding and subtracting decimals. Most students struggle with keep their place values organized. We will talk about the importance of keep our work organized, so that we don't have any silly mistakes.
Science
We will have a science assessment in two weeks. I will give out more information about the topics that will be assessed as we get closer to the testing date. This week we will review why the moon has phases.

This week we will look at the different cultures that have been combined to create the Texan culture. We will also learn about the different natural resources here in Texas.
