Good Afternoon!
It's DONE! It's OVER! We are finally free of STAAR!!! I can hear the cheering of parents and students all over :) And even better, the lovely Mrs. Harper was able to reschedule our trip to Aquarena Springs - woohoo!
We have a wonderful week ahead of us!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions...
Science
Students will take an assessment on ecosystems, food webs, and life cycles on Wednesday. We will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing in class. Don't forget to study both sets of vocabulary words to prepare at home. Thursday and Friday we will start our next unit on animal adaptations. We will learn how animals are able to survive in extreme environments.
Math
We are starting another fantastic PBL project on Wednesday. Mr. Kohn, Ms. Kohn's father, will stop by to talk to the kiddos about ways they can prepare for their financial futures. Be on the lookout for more information throughout the week! We've already got some great financial literacy resources on our math link. Feel free to check them out.
Language Arts & Paper PBL
We will be working on 2 PBL project for the remainder of the year. We are going to be busy, busy! Students have made great strides preparing their persuasive presentation for putting district assessments on computers. This week we will continue to learn about the effects of pollution on our environment. We will also have a guest speaker, Ms. Brunson, come chat with us about ways to persuade our audience. This will help us with both of our PBL projects.
Homework
All year we have been looking for ways to utilize technology in our classroom. We are going to test that with a new style of homework this week. You can use this link to access the homework assignment for the week. Students are going to read the attached websites, watch the videos, and take the online quiz. When they are done, they are going to submit a video response answering a few questions about what they learned. It's much easier than it sounds :) I will go over the assignment with the students on Monday. After you have had time to look over the assignment, please do not hesitate to send me any questions you may have. I know this is new for all of us.
