Fun in Fourth

We have had so much fun this week! We had a special guest, picked a PBL project, dressed up every day, created master pieces all afternoon, and had a lesson with our new counselor. Keep reading if you want to hear more about how our week has been!

Hunger
This year we've been talking a lot about food, nutrition, and being appreciative of what we have. That got us to thinking about choosing hunger as our PBL project for the year. We were so fortunate that Lori Scott, director at Round Rock Area Serving Center, offered to come talk with us about hunger issues here in our community. She shared some information about the number of people who are food insecure, the kind of services the serving center provides those people, and ways we can make a different here at Elsa England. We are going to jump start our project by encouraging people to donate to food drive that RRISD participates in every year. We will make advertisements to place around our campus to encourage parents, teachers, and students to participate. We can't wait to see where this project will take us!

Everyartist Live!
A HUGE shout-out to Mrs. West, one of our amazing art teachers, for organizing this new event for us. Every student had the chance to create art in a variety of formats throughout the day. The kiddos had so much fun exploring the National Gallery of Art: Kids Zone, crating clay masterpieces, and contributing their artwork to the Everyartist.me. Not to mention, today was the best dress-up day of the week. Mustache day!

Math
I am SO IMPRESSED with our kiddos! I tossed a lot of tough fraction problems at them today and they were all able to think about them logically and find the answers. There were composing and decomposing fractions using addition, subtraction, AND multiplication-MENTALLY! Wowzas! Talk about some higher-level thinking! Here are a few of the answers that jump started us into the deep waters of fraction problem solving. These aren't even the hard questions we tackled by the end of the afternoon.
