Weekly Update 1/25-29

Good Afternoon!

Here is a look at our week:

Reading
We wrapped up our traditional literature unit today. We also started our new unit on nonfiction by reading some infographics about hunger. We discussed the tools the authors used to help get their message across. It was also a great opportunity to inform ourselves about hunger and how it impacts children across our nation.

Writing
We are going to spend some time writing expository text. There will be a big emphasis on using commas correctly. We spent a lot of time discussing comma rules the last few days and this is their chance to put it into action!

Math
This is our last week reviewing fractions. We will focus on adding and subtracting mixed numbers and improper fractions. We will take a unit assessment on Friday.

Science
We are continuing to learn about resources and the importance of conservation. Students have an opportunity to earn extra credit by keeping their showers to 3 minutes this week!

Social Studies
We are going to continue to learn about how the first settlers survived in Texas. We are also going to spend a lot of time working on our PBL!

Homework
Students are all working on the same spelling this week. We are focusing on prefixes and suffixes and how we can use them to determine the meanings of new words. They will be tested on unit one and two next week. You can find a master list of words in the homework this week. Austin made us a quizlet to help us study!
