I hope everyone had a lovely vacation. Last semester went by so quickly and I know this one will go even faster!
Here is a look at our short week....
Reading
We are going to start a new unit on traditional literature. Students will learn about the common themes in traditional literature and the sub genres. We will focus our learning this week on trickster tales and character changes throughout the story.
Writing
We are going to wrap up our expository writing we were working on before the break. Students will finish working on their supporting paragraphs and learn strategies for crafting quality conclusions. Their writing will be due on Friday.
Science
We are also starting a new unit on science! We will discuss what the differences are between mixtures and solutions. Students will learn ways to separate mixtures using various tools. Don't forget to practice your vocabulary at home!
Math
We are going to spend some time reviewing perimeter, area, place value, and using the area model for multiplication. I figured we would take things easy for our first week back. Next week, we will start our unit on fractions.
Social Studies
We are continuing to learn about European exploration in North and South America.
Homework
Students have an optional homework assignment that will go home with them on Tuesday. It is due on Monday, January 11.
